Fine day is a surreal collage that plays with optimism, nostalgia and the quiet absurdity of leisure. A vintage couple in swimwear stands confidently at the edge of a lunar landscape, balanced between blue skies above and clouds below. The scene feels carefree and playful, yet slightly impossible, like a memory that has drifted away from reality.

The work draws on mid-century imagery and combines it with cosmic elements to explore ideas of escape, optimism and the thin line between comfort and risk. There is humour here, but also tension — a moment frozen just before action, suspended in an unfamiliar place.

This piece is part of an ongoing body of collage work by Gerard McDonagh, where found imagery is reassembled to create new narratives that feel both familiar and uncanny.
