The Intaglio Collection
The Intaglio Collection brings together a series of handmade etchings created using a mix of traditional and contemporary plate-making techniques. Each piece begins with marks carved, drawn, or bitten into zinc plates or light-sensitive polymer plates, depending on the needs of the artwork. The plates are then inked, hand-wiped, and printed through an etching press, pressing the metal and paper together to create a deep, tactile impression unique to intaglio printmaking.
These works draw on influences such as contemporary UK jazz and the expressive movements of twentieth-century art, exploring rhythm, gesture, and atmosphere through line, tone, and surface. The combination of zinc’s classic bite and polymer’s crisp detail allows for a wide range of textures and moods across the series. Each print is produced in a small edition, signed in sequence, and finished by hand in the Bravespears studio — making every piece a distinctive artwork in its own right.
